I never cooked before to be completely honest.
My mother cooked for me and after she died my family and I were buying food outside.
We collectively thought that buying food outside would be convenient — which indeed was case.
We knew it was expensive, but the trading convenience for cooking every day was worth it until it wasn’t.
You see my family and I don’t have a lot of money.
We can be considered as part of the lower middle class of society.
We were extremely lucky that we have amazing formal education.
Whenever we don’t have money, we settle for canned sardines and cheap ass sandwiches as we wait impatiently for the next income to come. (The family has bad financial habits.)
I got sick of that shit. I want to eat proper food.
I don’t want to eat sardines every time. I did that for 6 months when I was in high school, so no way I’m doing that again.
So, I started cooking.
It started with eggs. Then I started branching of as soon as I get starting the hang of it.
I started trying new things that are cheap yet healthy, I joined online communities that provide recipes.
I gained more control.
Control of what I eat, what I buy, what I eat, what I want to cook, etc.
This feeling of control has been liberating for me. It feels good. It feels really good.
I enjoy the feeling and I started cooking more and more not just for myself but for others as well.
