Do we really NEED to make something special?

I was having this conversation with my friend about our dreams and aspirations after we graduate.

I talked about building businesses, and he talked about being the best bilingual web developer out there.

We respected each other’s dream, but my friend told me that making a business will be a risky undertaking.

I agreed. I’ve always known this.

He said that I’ll need to have an amazingly special idea before I get anything out of a business. That’s the only way to make a business worth it.

I thought about it for a moment, and looked back to every book, media, and post that I’ve ever read. Each one of them promotes having a Unique Selling Proposition.

I get it and understood the logic, but I… disagreed.

For me the only important thing about business is giving something that can help people. That’s it.

It doesn’t have to be life changingly special, nor does it have to be viral or trendy.

All that really matters is a product or service that will help someone with anything, no matter how mundane it may be.

To me, the only thing that I can do to help someone right now is sharing my story.

I’m no Superman nor Gary Stu. I’m just a normal person who knows what it’s like to be at the bottom of the barrel.

That’s why I like to share my stories. Telling people that they’re not alone and there’s hope at the end of the tunnel – no matter how bleak it may be.

I intend to be the familiar name, the familiar face, with the familiar topic of hope that things do get better. And when things get better do, they take off like a rocket going to the moon.
