Recently, I’ve been hit with a realization about my career. It started off with simple daydreaming, but the more I think about it, the more it scares me.

If I don’t start thinking about what I need to do after my working career, then I’ll be fucked.

I don’t want to be in the workforce forever. I want to start my own business, and if I want to do that, then I have to start it as soon as possible.

So, I did just that.

In just a month, I established a Facebook page dedicated to the business. After that, I began sending cold emails to small and medium business that needs to redesign their websites.

It’s been unfruitful so far, but I see the future. I already saw someone doing this formula in their country, so it’s not impossible for me to do the same when there’s little competition.

Although, I had no competition. I wasn’t getting any clients for one simple reason.

They don’t trust me.

I don’t have a stellar portfolio. Honestly, I don’t even have one yet, and I don’t have someone close to me that can refer me to someone who I can a build a website for.

So, I decided to find a service I liked in the past and build them a website for free. Yes, for free. I know it sucks, but what’s the point of having them pay me when no one doesn’t even know who I am and what I offer.

So, for this week. I’m building a website and this is the initial results so far.

It’s still an unfinished layout, but what I want to show is already there. I bought a template which reduces development time, and I can mainly focus on design itself.

The main reason why I’m doing this is for free is that I need it to build trust. Yes, I could build a portfolio using fake and sample websites, but I don’t want to waste my time.

My mindset is to hit two birds with one stone. If I want to create a website for a portfolio, might as well build one for a real business and get their opinion on what needs to change.

Do I think my idea is stupid? Probably, but is it better than doing nothing. 100%. Anyway, I think I’ll be able to finish the whole website the first week of October, considering I have college shit I have to worry about.
